PORTAL 2 Level Design

Narrower the space, trickier the waves.


Overview

WAVES is a Portal 2 lab contains 3 chambers with mainly angled panels, slopes and tractor beam device.

Participants will learn, practice and master placing portals to redirect tractor beams, and using beams as conveyors to transport themselves and BOXES in between and cross the WAVES.

Chambers are designed to the shape of "W", "A", "V".

When I was experiencing the main story of Portal 2, one thing I enjoyed the most is when I`m in the tractor beam, everything else is slowed as I`m floating (being pushed gently) in the beam. Those blue beams remind me of the ocean and with angles, there are the waves.

Levels

Part 1 - Chamber "W"

Waves are rather calm and peace in the first chamber. They are steady, solid, and offering more options to participants.






Part 2 - Chamber "A"

Waves are getting trickier in the second chamber as the space is tightened up. Participants may think twice about the correct angle to redirect the tractor beam.






Part 3 - Chamber "V"

In the narrowest chamber, dangers and challenges emerged from the waves.






Lighting and decoration

Lighting

Light strips are used to show the direction and highlight the destination.



Decoration

Portalable slopes and angled panels are used to create “WAVES” and relieve visual tiredness.
